1. Measure the bedroom, closet and bathroom spaces, including windows and doors; draw and accurate floor plan.
2. Determine which furniture pieces to keep. In this room, all furniture was replaced. The mattress required replacing, and alternative storage options eliminated the need for a dresser.
3. Select a new mattress, and choose flooring for the suite (making sure it is suitable for the bedroom, bathroom, and closet spaces), and purchase nightstands at a secondhand store.
4. Repair holes in the walls. Paint the walls and ceiling, trim molding, vanity, and nightstands.
5. Remove old carpeting.
6. Install new cove molding and baseboard.
7. Construct the bench. Make and install the headboard.
8. In the bathroom: Remove the medicine cabinet, install a round mirror, sew and apply fabric designs to the shower curtain, install the new light, and hang hats on the wall.
9. Make the draperies; install draperies and blinds.
10. Frame the neckties and hang.
11. Make pillows for the bed and bench.
12. Hang the shelves and organize accessories on them.
13. Install the closet-organizer units and place clothing in drawers, on shelves, and on the hanging units.
14. Position the area rug.
15. Set up the bed, dress with linens, and arrange the pillows.
